The central processing unit (or CPU) is the primary chip on the |motherboard|. It is responsible for computation and controlling other components. An ~integrated circuit~, it interprets and executes program "instructions" and transfers information to and from other components along the ~data bus~. CPU chips are responsible for fetching and decoding data, executing instructions, and generally acting as the 'brains' of the computer.
